Review: One Small Thing
One Small Thing by Piper Vaughn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Such a happy book!
Rue, a flamboyant bartender and hairdresser wannabe, has a one night stand with a girl to confirm he is gay. According to his best friend Dusty there was no doubt but...
The girl turns up 3 months later pregnant with his baby.
What Rue was not expecting was to fall head over heels in love with a girl, his daughter Alice.
But between work and school he can't always look after her baby girl.
Erik, his neighbour, is a very shy, nerd, Star Wars fan and struggling writer.
Who is willing to get over his issues with people and babies an look after Alice while her Daddy is out and about.
What Erik was not expecting was to fall in love with the little girl and her Dad.
I love the story, they way Rue and Dusty help Erik come out of his bubble and show him that he doesn't have to be so lonely any more. That there are people that love him.
This book is about family, not in a traditional sense. One that is there when you need them, one that will stand by you and support you no matter what.
Alice, I think, is the luckiest baby ever.
I love books with children, that show the way two dads struggle to make it work.
One small Thing is about finding love when you were not expecting it. Is about finding family with the most random people in life. Is also about finding your place in the world and take chances.
