Review: The Flesh Cartel #4: Consequences

The Flesh Cartel #4: Consequences
The Flesh Cartel #4: Consequences by Rachel Haimowitz

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I still don't know where to start.
If you have been following the series you know they are not easy read, but there was something about The Flesh Cartel #4: Consequences that gives and additional sick twist to the whole story.
Good thing I was taking notes as I was reading, because honestly this book was just too much.
It hurt, but in a complete different way. It was not about pain or abuse anymore, it was about angst. Heart clenching angst.
Nikolai, evil mofo extraordinaire. I hate him. But I see his goal, and how he needs to find a way to achieve it.
He must find a hole in Mat and Dougie´s loyalty to each other.
He plays the mind games with Dougie, shame, guilt trips that put any Italian Mother to shame.
And works on the big brother complex with Mat. Matty will do anything, accept any punishment on him, as long as he can spare Dougie the pain.
And still is not working, he can't break them apart.
He can´t make them submit to Nikolai´s desires.
Even when they haven´t seen each other in so long, everything they do and tolerate is because of that brotherly love. To ensure the other one doesn't have to suffer anymore.
This 4th installment is not like the other books, is not just about physical domination, is all about psychological submission.
Nikolai knows the bond between the brothers is his greatest challenge. And finally understands it as it is.

“Do you have it in you to throw the match, Mathias?”

Mat thought about that for a moment, but he already
knew the answer. “For me? No. M’not strong like Dougie—
not strong enough to give shit up like that justa save my ass.
But for him? Yes. For Dougie.” He snorted with sudden
laughter. “For Dougie’s ass.”

Make no mistake, the suffering is still there so take the warnings very seriously.
